The correct CPU for an $800 build on the AM5 platform. Six cores, fast single-core performance, low power consumption, and access to the AM5 socket which supports future CPU generations.

GPU — AMD RX 7700 XT or NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti 16GB
The heart of this build. The RX 7700 XT offers 12GB VRAM and strong 1440p performance. The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB adds DLSS 3 Frame Generation. The 8GB RTX 4060 Ti is not recommended — always buy the 16GB version if choosing this card. Buy whichever is priced better at time of purchase.

The RX 7700 XT and RTX 4060 Ti are midrange cards with manageable thermal profiles. GPU temperatures should sit between 70 and 80 degrees Celsius under gaming load. Consider GPU undervolting after the first week — typically drops temperatures 8 to 12 degrees without any performance loss.
